A former NATO commander tossed his cellphone across a room when it started ringing during his appearance on CNN on New Year’s Day.
Retired Gen. Wesley Clark joined the network to discuss Iran-backed militias attacking the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq.
“I’m glad we used diplomacy. I’m glad to see the Iraqi government being able to get its security forces engaged in this point. But this is, like, by the Iranians — this is like landing a left jab in a 12-round boxing match. I mean, this is just one more punch. So, they’ve taken out and attacked some Saudi oil facilities. They were put back in place,” Clark said when his phone began ringing.
Clark then took his phone and threw it to someone off screen.
“Sorry about that,” he said.
“That is the best reaction to a ring I’ve seen on the air. Nicely done, general,” CNN’s Jim Sciutto said.
“Thank you. They caught it, too,” Clark said.
On Tuesday, protesters stormed the U.S. Embassy in Iraq in response to U.S. airstrikes on Kataib Hezbollah facilities in the country. By Wednesday, most had begun withdrawing from the embassy.
