Jackson library warns about phone scam involving book fines - San Antonio Express-News

JACKSON, Mich. (AP) — Feeling guilty about a library fine? Skip the call: It's a scam.

The Jackson library in southern Michigan is warning the public about solicitors who are calling people to collect overdue book fines. It might appear to be legitimate because the caller ID shows the phone number of the library.

"The Jackson District Library does not take payments over the phone or ask for account information from our patrons over the phone," assistant director Jason Shoup said. “We're asking that all our patrons please do not give anyone this information that asks for it via a phone call.”

The Jackson Citizen Patriot said the library might remind people about overdue fines, but those phone calls are automated.
